Diagnostic & Lab Technology, Santa Barbara Vet

Our Diagnostic Services

With our in-house veterinary diagnostics lab we are pleased to offer advanced diagnostic testing to allow our vets to provide an accurate diagnosis of your pet's medical issues.

  • Radiography (Digital X-Rays)

Using a radiograph (digital x-ray), we can examine your pet's internal systems to reveal information that may be invisible from the outside.

Radiography is a safe, painless and non-invasive procedure. It uses very low doses of radiation and, because of this, even pregnant and very young pets can undergo this procedure.

Radiographs can be used in order to evaluate your pet's bone and organs as well as diagnose conditions such as broken bones, bladder stones, some tumors, spinal cord diseases and chronic arthritis.

  • Ultrasound

The use of diagnostic imaging tools allows our veterinarians to create highly detailed images of your pet's internal systems and structures.

With ultrasound imaging, we expose part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the inside of the body.

Since we are able to capture images in real-time using ultrasound, we can see the structure and movements of your pet's internal organs in addition to blood flowing through their blood vessels.

Having this valuable technology available to our vets in our in-house lab means that your dog or cat's condition can be diagnosed quickly and treatment can start sooner.

  • Endoscopy

An endoscope is a very tiny camera and light which is attached to the end of a flexible tube.

When performing an endoscopy, we insert this tube into the body of your pet in order to observe internal organs and tissues in detail.

Minimally invasive endoscopes can be inserted into the openings of the body such as the mouth or anus.

  • Digital Dental X-Rays

If your dog or cat is suffering from periodontal disease, much of this damage will occur below their gum line where it isn't easily detectable. Our veterinarians can assess your pet's oral health in these instances using digital dental x-rays.

Digital dental x-rays are safe for your pet. They also allow our team to examine your pet's bones, roots and their mouth's internal anatomy.

With digital X-Rays, the risk of radiation exposure for your pet is significantly lower than with traditional X-Ray technology. We are able to see below the surface of your pet's gum line to fully evaluate each tooth.

This technology allows your Santa Barbara vet to see results immediately, then project them onto a computer screen to review.
